| ACTIVITIES
IN THE LOCAL AREA:
|
|
|
|
|
| Ayrshire itself is renowned for
its variety of sporting and leisure opportunities.
It is famous world wide for golf, with championship courses at
Royal Troon, Prestwick and Turnberry, all of which have hosted the Open
Championship. There is
sailing in the Firth of Clyde with yachting marinas at Troon and further
up the coast at Largs and Inverkip. There
are good opportunities for field sports including pheasant shooting and
salmon fishing. Several
well-known driven grouse moors are situated just south of Lanfine.
The racecourse at Ayr, which has both National Hunt and flat
racing, hosts the Scottish Grand National. Many other tourist attractions
and major Scottish Cities in the Central Belt are within easy reach for
day trips. |

Ayrshire
is without a doubt the birthplace and true home of Open Golf - the very
first British Open was held at Prestwick in 1860, and the golfing history
of the area dates back to the sixteenth century.
The
Open Championship courses at Royal Troon and Turnberry are our flagships,
of course, but whether a golfer's preference is for true Scottish Links or
parkland courses, there are some of the best municipal and privately run
courses within a club swing of almost anywhere in the county.
